Natrual Pest Control–A solution to many of those annoying pests

Check out these great cheap and  natural ways to keep those nasty little pests away!
Cucumbers area great natural pest control. It repels  or gets rid of bugs including ants, wasps, mites, moths, flies and other insects. One idea is to leave cucumber peel on window ledges in the kitchen to deter these pesky creatures.

Flies-
Have small pots of basil growing around your home to prevent flies. Another option is to put lemon and orange peel into containers around your home, (make it look attractive with some added petals etc to make a homemade pot porri).A natural fly catcher is to put something sickly sweet like mango peels in the bottom of narrow-necked wine bottles. The flies can fly in, but can’t fly out. I LOVE this idea! You can even make your own fly paper. Boil water, sugar and corn syrup together. Spread the extra-sticky mixture on brown paper grocery bags and you have your own fly paper which will trap flies.

Ants –
Cinnamon or salt sprinkled around the outside or your doors keeps ants away. And my favorite-  The only way to get rid of an infestation is to assassinate the queen. Wait until a dry spell is about to end. Sprinkle instant grits on the fire ant hill. The workers will carry the grits to the queen for her royal meal. She’ll eat the grits and when it rains, she’ll drink. And that’s what will kill her. The grits will expand in her stomach and she’ll “bloat” to death. Once she’s out of the way, the leaderless ants will die off. (This suggestion came courtesy of the Tightwad Gazette II book.)

Spiders –
Put a few drops of Citronnella in a spray bottle with water. Spray the corners of your room and around door and window frames.

ROACHES-
Baking soda and powdered sugar mixed in equal parts is a good roach killer. Just spread around the area where you see roaches and soon you won’t see them anymore. (Boric Acid, while slightly more toxic, is naturally occurring and is another way to get rid of them.)
Garden-  A great natural pest control for your garden is to make your own non-toxic insecticide. Melt a bar of ivory soap in two cups of water over night. Add to the mixture ¼ cup of corn oil and use in a spray bottle at the top and bottom of your infested plants.

Mice –
Plant peppermint plants around the outside of your home. The scent of the plants helps to deter mice from entering your home

 Fleas-

Grind rosemary leaves into a fine dust and sprinkle it onto your pet or its bedding to ward off fleas.
